Pealrs of the Kingdon 1/17/24

I had some service work done on my car last year. The dealer had to keep my car for the day so I was offered a loaner. To my surprise this loaner was a new 2024 model. So I rode around for a day in luxury. Some of the upgrades with this 2024 model included many of the new “safety” features.

It wasn’t too long before two of these “safety” features became frustrating for me. The first “safety” feature was eye focus. I would be driving along and a large "EYE" would appear on the dash screen warning me to keep my eyes focused on the road. I am trying to figure out where is this camera that seems to be keeping an eye on my eyes. The more I look around the more the warning  “EYE” shows up on my screen telling me to stay focused on the road. It was more distracting seeing that “EYE” giving me the eye to stay focused on the road.

Safety feature number two is lane assist. This safety feature keeps an eye on the side of the road and the center road line. If I drift too much, to far out of my lane the alarm goes off. A constant beeping sound, telling me I need to make needed corrections to stay in my lane. The beeping does not stop until I make needed corrections. Well, this “safety” feature is very sensitive to my lack of attention to staying perfectly between the lines and in my lane. It seems this beeping was going off a lot as I struggled to stay “perfectly” in my lane.  Anyone else have these new “safety features” on their car?  How many realize to turn off a safety feature can be disastrous! It would be foolish on my part to disconnect something that can actually keep me safe.

So, I am now wondering if we can draw from this “natural” application and find a “spiritual” application for our lives. I believe God has given us a “safety” feature for our faith journey. This safety feature warns us when we are headed in the wrong direction or making a bad decision. That safety feature is the written word of God and the Holy Spirit. Ever hear that still small voice saying, “don’t go there”, “don’t do that”?

God has given us the Holy Spirit and His word of truth to keep us from drifting into the wrong lane and keeping us safe by staying in the right lane. How many realize that our failure to listen to the Holy Spirit can be disastrous.

Gal 5:16-17 “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires.”

Gal 5:25 “Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.’

Pro 3:1-2 “My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.”

Pro 3:21-23 “My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble.”

My friends don’t turn off or tune out Gods safety warning system, the results could be disastrous.
